The Tripartite Secretariat held a crucial meeting with a United Nations Needs Assessment Mission Team focused on preparations by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) for the upcoming 2028 elections.
Coordinator of the Tripartite Secretariat, Ngolo Katta, highlighted significant progress in implementing Tripartite recommendations concerning the ECSL. Key achievements include the Management and Functional Review Report, which addresses recommendations 5, 6, and related policies. These developments, once fully implemented, are expected to enable the ECSL to conduct elections adhering to the highest standards of credibility and transparency.
The Secretariat is currently developing a suite of policies, including those on consultation, data management and communication, regulation-making powers, and staff recruitment, all aligned with the Tripartite recommendations.
The Needs Assessment Mission Team’s visit aimed to understand how these recommendations are shaping ECSL’s operations ahead of the 2028 elections. The team also inquired about synchronising key recommendation timelines with ECSL’s internal processes to ensure uninterrupted election preparations.
Findings from the mission will guide the United Nations’ future interventions in supporting the 2028 electoral process in Sierra Leone.
