The Coordinator of the Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat briefed the Resident Representative of the ECOWAS Representation Office in Freetown on the activities of the Secretariat and the implementation status of the tripartite recommendations.

The meeting was held on 21st January, 2026, at the conference room of the ECOWAS Office in Freetown. It came ahead of preparations for the presentation of the Management and Functional Reviews (MFR) conducted on PPRC, SLBC, IMC, and IPCB.

It was part of the activities of the Secretariat to update morale guarantors on the implementation of the tripartite recommendations and on the activities of the Secretariat generally.
Ngolo Katta provided a highlight of the activities implemented by the Secretariat in the last one year, and stressed on key events happening then.

Management and Functional Reviews on SLBC, PPRC, IPCB, and IMC would be presented on Friday to the Chief Minister. They are diagnostic study of the administrative and operational mechanics of the institutions to reform processes and practices that will improve on service delivery and accommodate growth in line with an agenda for delivery for the citizens.

Mr Katta said a bill entitled the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment Act) 2025 had been gazetted. It contained legislations that were informed by the tripartite recommendations and the Constitutional Review Reports.

He informed the Resident Representative about regular meetings with the Technical Committee of the Development Partners who provided oversight and monitored the implementation of the recommendations.

Meetings were also held with elections management bodies, state and non-state actors which discussed the tripartite and developed mechanisms for conducting public education activities aimed at tackling fake news and misinformation around the tripartite.

Ngolo Katta briefed the meeting on the popularization of the 80 tripartite recommendations in the 16 districts across the country. The engagements, funded by the UNDP, saw a teeming number of participants who attended the sensitization engagements.

He congratulated ECOWAS for the leadership demonstrated in the mediations leading to the Agreement for National Unity.

In days ahead the Secretariat would roll out public education activities for which ECOWAS was invited strongly to consider funding.

The Resident Representative of ECOWAS welcomed the Secretariat and thanked the Coordinator for the commitment to deliver on the mandate of the Secretariat. Ambassador John Azumah said ECOWAS should be at the centre in all aspects of human endeavours and in all aspects of social and political disturbances affecting the region. He said his Office would collaborate with the Secretariat and support its activities.
“We should not wait until issues arise before we jump onto addressing them. We must take time to identify early warning signs, discuss them in a collaborative spirit, and address them in a manner that maintains the peace and strengthens cohesion, Mr. Azumah said.

The ECOWAS Office and the Tripartite Secretariat pledged to build a partnership that would support the broader vision of the tripartite of securing a peaceful, transparent, and credible elections in 2028.
