(In Line with Recommendation 78 of the Tripartite Report)
19 June 2025 | Freetown, Sierra Leone
More than forty representatives from Sierra Leone’s Inter-Religious Council, encompassing Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, convened on Thursday for a critical consultation on the country’s electoral system.

Recognised as the moral conscience of society, the council plays a key role in safeguarding principles that underpin Sierra Leone’s shared values and social cohesion.
“We see them as the moral guarantors of the peace and stability we enjoy today,”
said the Coordinator of the Tripartite Secretariat.

Their contributions reflected a strong desire to choose an electoral system that upholds peace, strengthens democracy, and delivers on the aspirations of Sierra Leonean society.
The consultation process now moves forward to engage registered political parties in the next session.

The series of meetings are organised by the Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat, in collaboration with the Office of the Attorney-General, with funding from the Government of Sierra Leone and the European Union, facilitated through International IDEA Africa.
“On behalf of the Tripartite Steering Committee, I express sincere appreciation to the leadership of the Inter-Religious Council for boldly advocating on behalf of their constituencies, communities, and society,”
said the Secretariat Coordinator.
