The Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat today, 3rd June 2026, paid a courtesy call to the Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Karmoh K. Conteh, to discuss the progress of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which is currently before Parliament awaiting deliberation and approval.
Mr. Conteh told the Secretariat that gazetted copies of the Bill have already been distributed to Members of Parliament and relevant stakeholders for their consideration.
He said discussions on the Bill had been delayed by the temporary absence of the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), from Parliament, but stressed that Parliament remains committed to advancing the legislative process once the necessary consultations are completed.
The Clerk noted that the Bill requires the support of a two-thirds majority of Members of Parliament to pass into law, in line with the Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament.
Mr. Conteh also confirmed that the Speaker of Parliament and parliamentary leadership are fully aware of the Bill’s status and are actively coordinating next steps toward its progression.
Parliament has advised that the Speaker engage with the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to confirm the Bill’s readiness for the next stage of consideration.
Stakeholders have meanwhile been encouraged to submit position papers to enrich parliamentary deliberations and ensure broad-based participation in the legislative process.
The Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the implementation of Tripartite Recommendations and engaging key institutions in support of Sierra Leone’s ongoing constitutional and governance reforms.
