The Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat (TSCS) has paid a courtesy call on the National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD) to solicit collaboration and to also update them on the implementation of the tripartite recommendations.
The meeting took place on Monday 1st September 2025 at the Commission’s conference room at New England Ville.
The Coordinator for TSCS said the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), the Office of National Security (ONS), and the Office of the Attorney-General had made significant progress in the implementation of the Tripartite Recommendations.
The AG’s Office, he noted, would commence sets of consultations with ministries, departments, agencies, civil society organizations, political parties, parliamentarians, and other stakeholders on the drafted legislations and constitutional amendments to make them people-centred, people-driven, and people-owned.
He urged the Commission to take interest in the constitutional review and to advocate in the interest of their constituency. He also invited them to support the Secretariat in the popularization of the 80 Tripartite Recommendations across the country.
The Commission, he added, would be relevant in championing advocacies dealing with their counterparts to promote inclusion in the tripartite processes.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) had supported training of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and young persons in the five regions to empower them to learn about tripartite, talk about tripartite, and educate their peers on the same tripartite recommendations.
The Chairman of the Commission, Brima Sheriff, welcomed the TSCS and noted that issues around PWDs should be treated as a matter of emergency. He said they had paid serious attention to the constitutional review process, and would continue to do so by making a position paper incorporating their thoughts on recommendation 78, dealing with electoral systems for Sierra Leone.
The Commission would push for an appreciable level of political participation for PWDs, advocating for a thirty percent quota for women with disability within the 30 percent safe seats for women generally.
Mr Brima made a commitment to support the popularization of the 80 Tripartite Recommendations, including training of disadvantaged groups.
The TSCS, for its part, will commence civic engagement activities across the country and capacity training of disadvantaged groups on the Tripartite Recommendations.
